In today’s dynamic energy world, mentorship is more than career advancement—it’s a powerful instrument of empowerment, inclusion, and lasting success. For women working in this fast-evolving field, the importance of mentorship cannot be emphasized enough. Whether you’re learning from a mentor or becoming one yourself, the impact is undeniable: mentorship opens doors, builds confidence, and nurtures the next generation of women leaders in energy.
Having a mentor is like carrying a compass through uncharted territory. In an industry where women remain underrepresented at the top, mentors provide guidance, encouragement, and real-world insights that help you navigate obstacles and unlock new opportunities.
I wasn’t even searching for a mentor when I happened to encounter the individual who would go on to shape my career—if not my entire life. I was simply trying to figure out what was next. Honestly, I probably would’ve accepted the first job that came along, just to keep moving forward. But he saw something in me. He asked the right questions, gave advice without judgment, and encouraged me to think deeper about my goals and passions. He pushed me to ask myself: What do I really want? That changed everything.
What began as a professional connection became a lifelong friendship. To this day, I still turn to him for advice—whether it’s about work, life, or the space in between. He helped me find a path, not just a paycheck. I’ll forever be grateful for that.
A mentor can:
And perhaps most importantly, a good mentor helps you see what’s possible—even when you don’t yet see it yourself.
That first mentorship experience is the reason I believe so passionately in paying it forward. Because sometimes, the right mentor shows up when you least expect it—and helps you become a version of yourself you didn’t even know was possible.
Once you’ve experienced that kind of guidance, becoming a mentor yourself is the next natural step. It’s about more than giving back—it’s about continuing the cycle of growth, resilience, and leadership that strengthens this industry for all of us.
As a mentor, you:
Mentorship also builds stronger organizations. It promotes connection, increases engagement, and fosters a culture where women feel seen, heard, and valued.
The Women’s Energy Alliance is grounded in the belief that when we lift each other up, we all rise. Whether you’re new to the field or a seasoned veteran, there’s a place for you in this mentorship movement.
Find a mentor. Be one. Build mentorship into your teams and your culture. Honor the people who guided you—and offer that same support to someone else.
Let’s lead with intention, rise together, and keep building a future in energy that’s more inclusive, more empowered, and full of possibility.
