Research finds sweeping public support for electricity competition

Survey finds overwhelming public support for choice in electricity supplier. Nearly nine in 10 U.S. residents support having the right to choose their electricity supplier, according to a recent poll by NRG and Quadrant Strategies. Nearly 80 percent of the respondents feel they have limited or no choice in their electric service provider and a solid majority feel that they have less choice in their electric service than they do in their cable providers, the survey found. “In the most important services people buy, consumers have a choice on who they buy from; but in many states, electricity – a product that powers life as we know it – consumers are stuck with no choice on who to do business with and the technology is the same as it was back in the 20th century,” NRG Retail President Elizabeth Killinger said. “The results from the research aren’t surprising – Americans clearly prefer choice.”
