13 May EMC Responds to Covid-19: A Three-Prong Approach

As of the date of this articlethere have been about 1.3 million cases of Covid-19 in the USA. More than 25% of the cases have been in New York. There have been 80,000 deaths in the country and more than a third of these have been in New York. While every death is tragic, only 2% of those deaths occurred in the state of Florida. We have just completed eight weeks of quarantine and lockdown.
The team at Energy Marketing Conferences was scheduled to have its Fall conference on September 17th at the Midtown Hilton Hotel in New York City, just like the previous years.
On the one hand, we knew that there would be lots of pent up demand for networking in the retail energy industry. On the other hand, how could we run a conference with more than 500 attendees in New York City – the epicenter of the virus?
So, we did a survey of over 750 of our past attendees from the last few events and spoke to dozens of retail energy providers on the phone to get their opinions. We also polled our sponsors and exhibitors, many of whom have been with us for many years. The results are in. By popular consent, EMC has decided to take a three-prong approach to the Coronavirus that we believe will make everyone happy.
First, we are building the industry’s first and only “Virtual Exhibition Hall” for sponsors and exhibitors. We already have more than 30 Virtual Exhibitors signed up and we hope to build this to 100. This is a three-dimensional exhibition experience and it will be up all year round – 24/7/365!
From now on, anyone looking for products and services in retail energy will be able to access the biggest and only exhibition hall of its kind. REPs will have free access and can search any one of six main categories: Suppliers, Marketing, Retention, Technology, Wholesale Energy & Finance, and Consulting & Professional services.
Within each major category there will be sub-categories. So, for example, “Retention” will include LED lighting, rewards programs, customer engagement, home warranties, home security, solar, energy efficiency and lots more. Visitors will be able to view each Virtual Exhibitor’s materials, videos, and reach out to them if they have an interest in a dialogue.
Second, we have rescheduled the Fall Energy Marketing Conference from September 17th to November 17th. This should give us all a chance to catch our breath after this crazy time in our lives.
Third, we have moved our Fall Conference from New York City to Orlando Florida. November is a great time to be in the Sunshine State and we booked the beautiful Rosen Centre Hotel.
We are confident that this will be one of the best Energy Marketing Conferences ever and we have already seen lots of people register in advance and take advantage of our early-bird discount.
We are personally planning on taking our children (and grandchildren) to Disneyworld as part of the trip – after 10 weeks of quarantine – they deserve this much-needed vacation!
