Electricity competition in Singapore starts off with a bang

Consumers rush to embrace electricity competition in Singapore. Singapore’s broad rollout of electricity competition on the peninsula debuted on a “strong note,” Singapore’s The Straits Times reports. Electricity retailers experienced “brisk” sign-up rates with the launch of the open electricity market, as some described the consumer interest in competitive electricity service as “overwhelming,” according to the newspaper. Competitive service provider Geneco signed up some 1,000 new customers in just one day. In all, more than 2,000 residential and commercial customers signed up for competitively offered electricity service, according to data provided by six of 13 retailers contacted by the newspaper.
